I am pondering of getting the 2003 Toyota Prius and questioning if it has a gps navigation system put in in the dashboard.
Answer by JerryJ
Some do and some don’t. All have the buttons, but unless of course you can press the button and the GPS comes up, then that particular auto does not. If the automobile you’re considering of buying doesn’t have it, it really is nearly unattainable to add a factory one particular since the wiring harness is diverse, so the price becomes prohibitive.
Even so, you can get a kit that allows a GPS, among other points, to be displayed on the Prius’ display from http://coastaletech.com/viewtech.htm

They look to be a fairly uncommon accessory in the initial generation (2001-2003). As JerryJ points out it is not practical to retrofit the factory GPS but is practical to adapt other devices.
I don’t have 1 but I have heard a lot of dissatisfaction (or at least disappointment) with the constructed-in technique. The efficiency is decent enough and the in-dash show is nice, but adjustments can not typically be entered even though moving, even by the passenger. Update discs are expensive ($ 250, the final I heard). Aftermarket GPS units are not as beautifully integrated but you can decide on the features you want and passengers can search for gas stations and restaurants whilst driving.

Not standard but avoid the Prius if trying to save $ $ $ $
Most people buying a hybrid are assuming they will be the least expensive vehicle to operate but that is totally untrue. Yes they are very good on fuel mileage BUT you have to consider ALL costs, not fuel alone. When including all costs over a three year period no hybrid including the Prius even makes the top ten list of most economical cars as can be seen here:
http://autos.yahoo.com/articles/autos_content_landing_pages/1442/cheap-dates-the-10-least-expensive-cars-to-own/ The Chevy will be the most reliable.
So if your plan is to save money on operating costs then choose one of the top ten most economical cars form the list and avoid all hybrids sense not even one of them made the top ten list.
The other two answers are from the same guy using two accounts.
Typical Toyota deception…..
