Solution by adaviel
our 2007 model seems rather reliable – no issues so far, not confident I feel the “uncommanded acceleration” scare was genuine.
Possibly only saved about $ 3500 in fuel although more than driving a minivan undoubtedly have not paid that a lot in servicing.

Does anybody know what new technological innovation was utilized in the Toyota Prius Hybrid 2012 that cannot be located else exactly where?

Answer by Anisur
The prius plug-in is the most advanced member of the prius household however. Combining an extended all-electric mode [1][two] with established hybrid technology, it can get you up to 475 miles prior to your up coming fill-up, depending on driving situations. [three] You also get the convenience of plug-in charging with fast recharge occasions.

Solution by JerryJ
The 2012 Prius builds on the previous Prius engineering. To come across out what the new things are for 2012, download the New Auto Functions manuals from http://techinfo.toyota.com/ There is a nominal $ 10 charge for a day’s unlimited downloading. You’ll also want the 2010 NCF manual due to the fact that facts the modifications produced to the 3rd generation Prius.

I’m having trouble with my Droid X linked to the Bluetooth built in to my 2005 Toyota Prius. I can get it to connect, but when I recieve a call, it rings about twice and then automobile-answers. I’ve tried seeking via the settings of both my Prius and my Droid, and absolutely nothing looks like it would be creating this issue. Has anybody experienced this dilemma or know how to repair it?

Solution by JerryJ
There is no setting for this behaviour in the Prius. The iPhone in my Prius rings until finally I press the off-hook button on the steering wheel, so this need to be a attribute in the Droid’s Bluetooth programming.

Solution by anjy834u
properly i would propose you to consult your dealer since droid is a new characteristic. not everybody is well acquainted with the inner choices of droid and bluetooth compatibility.

A person mentioned that in the mining of the core for the battery is only mined or discovered in the USA. It Need to then be sent to Japan to be smelted. Then the vehicle is shipped back to the United States to be offered. – Supposedly the pollution brought on by the miners, the transportation to and fro, and smelting cancel out the pollution savings of the Toyota Prius.

If this IS true can I get PROOF.
Thanks for the two informative answers. Too challenging to choose.

Solution by Sean
Actually, the plant that manufactures the batteries for the Toyota Prius are located in a rural area of China. This region of the nation has no pollution manage laws, and as this kind of, dumps toxic chemical waste into the regional rivers on a everyday basis. 1 google search and you can come across the area of the toyota plants.

Answer by JerryJ
No, it’s not correct.

one. Some of the nickel for the NiHM batteries comes mostly from the Sudbury, Ontario, Canada mine. There are other nickel mines all through the planet. Toyota is not saying how a lot comes from wherever.

two. The details employed by the detractors comes from the 1960s when the mine, like most all mines, were pretty negative environmentally. Throughout the 1980s the mine was cleaned up and it now wins environmental awards from Setting Canada and other individuals. (AFAIK, there weren’t a lot of Prius produced in the 1960s and 1970s, any you discover really should be really worth a fortune).

3. Only about one% of the mine’s total output is used for NiMH batteries of all kinds. A lot of the other 99% is utilised mostly for tableware and automotive chrome although there are a lot of other uses for nickel, such as coins.

4. All vehicle manufactures ship supplies and autos more than the world. Toyota is no worse than any other. Note that most of the Toyotas sold in North America are made in North America and with 80% of parts currently being supplied from North America. The Prius is an exception to this. The Camry hybrid is produced in the Kentucky plant.

five. The Prius sold in Japan, Europe, and North America are created in Japan in the Tsutsumi Plant. There is a plant in China but Prius from there are only offered in China and I feel they are diverse than the ones marketed elsewhere.

6. The Prius is created in a zero-landfill factory (so are many other Toyotas).

7. There is a program to manufacture the Prius in the Mississippi plant that’s currently getting built. There is no date set when the production might start off. (I believe they will start off producing Corollas there until the “kinks” are worked out, although that might alter).

eight. Most of the plastics in the Prius are bio-plastic rather than petroleum based.

9. A excellent portion of the repair manual consists of directions on how to recycle the various components. For illustration, the wiring harness can be removed with a single pull so the copper can be recycled.

10. Toyota, Honda, and VW are making jobs in America although the so-known as American firms are shipping jobs to China and Mexico as fast as they can. I think I will stick with the auto companies that generate American jobs.

Solution by CAB
It would be extremely tough to come up with difficult and quickly numbers for lost savings considering that for one issue we have no idea what Prius owners would be driving if they weren’t Prius owners.
Another point to contemplate about all round pollution: all those storage batteries will wear out, and batteries are terrible polluters if not disposed of appropriately and when they are disposed of properly it takes very a bit of power to do so.
I also suspect that when these vehicles get older and the time comes to replace the batteries the replacement price will be far more than the overall really worth of the car and men and women will get rid of them rather of keeping them on the road, incurring much more pollution and energy losses in scrapping the old autos and purchasing new replacements.
Lastly, the Prius gets about the same mileage as a late 80s Honda CRX, which needed no new technologies and was a much more entertaining vehicle to drive…..such is “progress”

I am about to get a 2008 Toyota Prius and I want to get a connection for my Ipod Touch. Any recommendations? Thanks

Answer by ohell to the no whitney
I purchased a Monster a thing or other at Greatest Get for $ 70 and llike it alot. I can bring it in any auto, hook it into radio, go to the station set and it is pretty dam great.

Solution by john hobart
I’d go with coastal tech’s http://www.coastaletech.com/ULTIMATE%20IPOD.htm

This kit give you access to your ipod by means of the touch display.

Do not forget to replace that 12V lead acid crap battery with an Optima D51. I’ll be carrying out this these days considering that I previously have my battery and my cable kit must be delivered nowadays.

in my 2008 Prius, there is an aux input for external audio sources like the ipod or other mp3 players. This aux input lacks ground noise isolator transformers. I took care of that problem although and eliminated the annoying sound that was being created when I used that aux input by building my personal ground noise isolator. now i have a switchable three source selector into my aux input.

i have driven a number of toyota prius’ and observed that sometimes when placing it in reverse, a rear view camera appears on the display screen. was curious if it was a regular or not on all priuses.
how do you turn on and off the rear view digital camera?

Answer by mrvadeboncoeur
The reverse camera became a new attribute offered on Toyota Prius (with alternatives, not the base model, but on the vast majority) starting up with the 2006 model year (portion of the minor redesign).

http://pressroom.toyota.com/Releases/View?id=TYT2005110477677

“A new rear back-up digital camera is now available as an choice. The rear digital camera instantly tasks an picture of what the lens can detect behind the vehicle onto the dash-mounted LCD display monitor when the car is in reverse gear.”

http://www.toyota.com/prius-hybrid/options.html

exhibits that the backup camera is obtainable only in selected option packages.

The reverse digital camera displays on the monitor when you shift into “R” (reverse). When you shift out of “R” (reverse) into an additional “gear,” the display reverts to regular display.

Solution by Rob R
Just place the Prius in reverse. The camera will come on IF you have it.

It comes in the Prius with the package #two through package #6.

As soon as in reverse, it comes on. Place the automobile in drive and it shuts off.

I am pondering of getting the 2003 Toyota Prius and questioning if it has a gps navigation system put in in the dashboard.

Answer by JerryJ
Some do and some don’t. All have the buttons, but unless of course you can press the button and the GPS comes up, then that particular auto does not. If the automobile you’re considering of buying doesn’t have it, it really is nearly unattainable to add a factory one particular since the wiring harness is diverse, so the price becomes prohibitive.

Even so, you can get a kit that allows a GPS, among other points, to be displayed on the Prius’ display from http://coastaletech.com/viewtech.htm

Solution by Michael
They look to be a fairly uncommon accessory in the initial generation (2001-2003). As JerryJ points out it is not practical to retrofit the factory GPS but is practical to adapt other devices.

I don’t have 1 but I have heard a lot of dissatisfaction (or at least disappointment) with the constructed-in technique. The efficiency is decent enough and the in-dash show is nice, but adjustments can not typically be entered even though moving, even by the passenger. Update discs are expensive ($ 250, the final I heard). Aftermarket GPS units are not as beautifully integrated but you can decide on the features you want and passengers can search for gas stations and restaurants whilst driving.
